I was speaking at a large meeting of executives the other day, educating them on social media, and explaining how new media is so very different from the 'traditional' old school medias that I'd worked on and in for so long.
Most of them had been accustomed to hearing and seeing me as a news anchor and producer on radio and TV - but here I was, happy as a clam, running my media consultancy and extolling the great "value" and virtues of the new way of communicating. And understanding.
During the conversation, speaking rapidly, I blurted out in a Roseanna Roseannadanna sort of way, that by using and developing new media in the right way, it creates 'a wwwipple effect' that is unlike any that could have been bought or sold on radio, tv, or print -- unless a client had Superbowl bucks. And that is the moment the term was coined. The clients had a belly laugh and remembered it. And so did I. It stuck. And the wwwipple effect we've created for their business backs it up!
